On March 21, 2008, Ford Motor Company signed the contract to acquire the majority stake in Craiova and started an initial investment of over € 675 million through which this production unit was to be transformed into a factory high technology at European level. Ten years later, Ford’s investment in the Craiova plant has exceeded 1.2 billion euros, making the Manufacturing Factory one of the most technologically advanced manufacturing units in the world. Vehicle production started in September 2009 with the easy Transit Connect Utility. In 2012 Ford started the production of the 1.0 EcoBoost engine, which continues successfully today in Craiova, as well as the innovative Ford B-MAX, produced exclusively in Romania until September 2017. In October 2017, the plant launched a new project and became the production unit for the new Ford EcoSport, a model delivered exclusively from Romania to the entire European market. With the launch of the new EcoSport at the Craiova plant, Ford expects 2018 to be the best in the last ten years in terms of production volumes.

Ford has about 202,000 employees worldwide. Ford Europe produces, sells and manufactures vehicles under the Ford brand on 50 individual markets and has about 54,000 employees in its own units and about 69,000 employees when joint ventures and non-consolidated entities are considered. In addition to Ford Motor Credit Company, Ford Europe includes the Ford Customer Relations Division and 24 production units (16 fully owned or joint ventures and 8 unincorporated joint ventures). The first Ford cars were delivered to Europe in 1903, the same year that the Ford Motor Company was founded. European production began in 1911.
